Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Thanks for reviewing, advance apologies for lengthy post.

Weve recently purchased Crystal Reports 9 Advanced (and will soon upgrade to Enterprise Standard) to produce Crystal Reports out of TeamPlay via the Primavera SDK. We have a beefy, dedicated Crystal Reports Production server and Primavera DB server.

Were experiencing two significant problems.

1) Due to the fact we have to produce portfolio reports on detailed resource assignment data and are also using extended tables to do so it takes a very long time to create the SDK connection as we have to set the OPENALL=YES and the level to 7. The Primavera DB server and the Crystal Report Servers are physically next to each other in the Data Center. We are also taking advantage of Crystals Report Application Server (RAS) and ePortfolio lite (web viewer) from which to launch the reports. Any ideas on how to improve performance? Each time a different Crystal Report is run the SDK data (i.e. VDBE environment w/ calculated fields, etc....) is re-generated. This currently takes several minutes, then the Crystal Report spec is processed.

2) Also experiencing "instability" of the Crystal Application (and perhaps SDK) which may be due to the following:

from Primavera SDK documentation re: Primavera SDK and Multi-user Access

The Primavera SDK obeys all multi-user rules and can be used in a multi-user environment where many PM tools access the database at the same time. The Primavera SDK does not, however, support more than one connection to a Primavera SDK data source on any given client machine. Opening a second connection cancels the license slot granted to the first client, and both clients may become unstable. Any suggestions?

I realize this posting is quite lengthly, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks, appears the SSAPI using Java is the up-and-coming potential solution. However, in order to deploy this, Java code will need to be developed in-house to use this. Not quite a turn-key solution, and it doesnt help us right now with our production environment.

Dear Guest,

Primavera SDK creates inward air pressure. Primavera is so pleased with it that they are bringing out a replacement interface with p3e/c Version 4.0. Contact Primavera for an advanced copy of this interface. Dont try to work around a disappearing problem.
