Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Does anyone know if there is a free viewer for Primavera P3 files... don’t have the software anymore, but have loads of P3 files that I would like to save as PDF’s for future reference...

Thanks

Please try our XER schedule viewer - available for download from www.xerviewer.com - it operates through MS Excel, using Microsoft's JET database engine - so no need for specialist software installation or training. The outputs look exactly like Primavera!

Mike,

I do not believe Asta nor Spider should waste time with old P3 files, in any case continue developing import/export functionality for newer versions of Primavera P6 and Microsoft 2010 software. I know and understand conversions will never be 100% equivalent and acept it as is.

If I ever heard about a viewer for P3 will let Tom know. I believe preferably it got to be something that mimic P3 ways and not an import into other software never 100% compatible and with a different interface. With the excercise I realized that for Asta files there is no substitute to Asta Viewer, for Spider Files there is no substitute to Spider Viewer.

Best Regards,
Rafael

Mike,

That is how it reads from Asta PP Site:

View project plans for free
Sharing project plans with everyone involved on a project has just become a whole lot easier with the latest version of Asta Project Viewer - version 11

Asta Project Viewer version 11 is a freely available viewer that enables users to open, navigate and print project plans created in the following file formats:

Asta Powerproject versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11
Asta Easyplan versions 2, 3 and 4
Microsoft Project XML
Primavera XER (compatible with P3e versions 4.1, P5 and P6)
Primavera P3 batch format (compatible with Primavera P3)
It is completely free of charge – so use it yourself and give it to clients, colleagues, partners, trade contractors, literally anyone!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot any longer use SureTrak as it is not compatible with Windows 7. I will recommend anyone who insists in using old software such as P3 or SureTrak better not do it and check for options outside Primavera products who never provided a viewer and does not provide for P6 users to access P3 files unless P3 is installed on their machines. Kind of an expensive viewer.

I tried to open my old P3 files from SureTrak using Asta Viewer but could not, so I just uninstalled the viewer. Do you know if Asta products have problems with windows 7 or any other software installation such as new Office 2010? The viewer did not worked as advertised and is persistent in creating unwanted files on the desktop.

It was out of curiosity as everyone here just dumped P3/SureTrak. I have no real need to see old P3 files, is time to let it rest in peace, forget software no longer supported and move ahead.

At least Asta PP and Spider Project users know they will always have a free viewer available for their use and for everyone else for free. I never knew of a free viewer by Primavera which would be the ideal as it would have the interface and 100% compatibility. Definitively this is a must have functionality at the time of making your purchase decision.

Best Regards,
Rafael

Hi Rafael

The Astadev viewer works with Powerproject but will not open other files.
However Tom you download a 14 day triasl version of PowerProject there is a facility that will convert P3 files to PowerProject so they can be printed.

It works if you have both files on the same PC - maybe you need to have both sets of software too - but it is worth a try.

Or again maybe there is a trial version of Suretrak that you can download?

Best regards

Try the following and let us know. I have not tried it yet. Do not know how it displays the layouts nor the settings.
