Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we deliver the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

If use Activity.xls, it is RA solution.
I wonder the business rule in P3 cause the problem. This need time to work out the rule and we self control what data to be input.

Sorry for cofusion,

Basically the program consists of some completed activities, some in progress and the rest have not started ones.

The problem is how to import cost for all these activities, completed, in progress and not started activities in fast way.

I have tried using RA : in this method i could import resource assignment but not the cost. Cost might have imported but i could not see under budgetted cost

I have also tried with Excel importing and expoting (WK1 files): same problem

I have done using Access (DB1): resources are duplicated, original cost also there with newly assigned cost.

I hope time it is clear.

Thanks & regards

Kumar

To Forum guest(s),
I confused by the posted information in this thread. You have mentioned that resource can be import but not the cost item against it. Then mentioned about the problem is to those activities with progress. The latest is cost imported to 100% PCT activities.
May I ’re-form’ the problem, accurate cost cannot be import to P3 non-completed activity?

(It’s a problem to me that I’m not sure feedback is from same forum guest or not. If more than one forum guest join the discussion, difficult to get a solution. Just like all activities in a programme are marked "Concreting" without Activity Coding Value or WBS assigned)

I have done that, when I update in the access and exported back to P3, P3 is showing double entry, one is previously existing resources with previous cost and also the updated cost in access separately. This activity i am talking about is an 100% completed one.

You can do all this using MS Access.
first link Exported DB to MS access
2nd use query update , etc menu function
last import back to p3

Have you check the access right of the project? As you say, cost can be import. There is something to stop it.

Most of the items you mentioned are calculated items not an input from the user. The cost is an input from the user which can be imported or exported.I am wondering why it is not happening in my schedule.

Thanks & Regards

- Earned Value Cost (BCWP)
- Earned Value Quantity (BQWP)

- Free Float
- Total Float

According to Primavera info, round the data to two decimal places before importing. Hope help.

Hi,

I heard this problem is due to the some activities with progress. We can not use the techniques like RA , export and import when there are some actual dates, and we have to manually key in one by one if you want to be accurate.

Is this correct or any other ways of doing it faster?

Thanks

May be some data format not accept. To test, input cost to one activity in P3, then use RA to retrieve the information onto Excel. Check the data format.

you all saying we can do it with RA.

But I have tried nothing comes up in P3 after i set costs from Excel sheet which is provided by P3 in CD.

1.I have imported activity data into activity infromation sheet.
2.I copy and paste activity ID into cost sheet and entered resources ID and cost.
3. I pressed set resources assignment costs.
4. In P3 resources can be assigned but no cost have been imported.

Please help.

Thanks

I am agree with RA is the easy way to do it.
You need a little knowledge of Vb and better Vba with excel or access, but after You can do what You want, not just load costs, resources, but standard reports that run automatically.

just a little effort at the beginning to same a lot of time during the project life.

What is not helping in the beginning is that with office xp Vba in access look like not the one for Office 97.
I had also some problem in excel as I prepared some routine in excel XP and in the office with excel 2000 are not able to complete the last step. Mainly is not able to save one sheet in DBIII format.
With the same P3 file in the laptop (XP) all work in the proper way.

How about import/export or by RA? I think much better. If you want more information about RA, have the P3 software CD, one folder is named RA and both sample file and documentation are in this folder.
