Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

How I can calculate the cost by using P6?

Hi Mohd,

Many people use P6 for just dates and for cost they use someother tool. Anyhow to use cost in P6, there are few ways to do it.

Cost are basically entered in two ways.
1. Resource based Cost
2. Non-resource based cost

In resource based cost, create resources (eg: Excavator, Structural Engineer) and allocate man-day rates. Then assign these resources to activities. For example, if structural engieer cost $500 a day, and you assign him to an activity of 10 day duration, then the cost of the activity becomes $5000 (10 Days X $500 a day)

Non-resource based cost, are basically the expenses module in P6, where you can put in ad-hoc expenses, travelling expenses etc and tie it to an activity.

Hence by assigning cost at the activity level, rolls up to the WBS and then onto the Project.

Hope this answered your question.
