Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi all!

We are using Primavera Professional R8.2 for long time. But we have problem about export. When we try to export excel file it gives:

"An application event has been intercepted. Please note the event code for reference. Event code 1917-3"

When try to export as xml or project file it does not give error message. But the created file always becomes empty - 0 Kb size.

I need your support about this.

This issue has been resolved in the following Microsoft Windows updates:

How to get this update:

  • This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.
  • If you want to apply a standalone package for this update, refer to the associated KB links above for your operating system and click the link which will redirect you to the Microsoft Update Catalog.

there are 3 other work arounds

  • Workaround 1:
    • Upgrade to a release of P6 Professional which does not utilize MS JET engine for the XLS integration.
      • Using r15.2, the x64 distribution uses the Microsoft Access Database Engine (ACE) driver for excel integration, which is not affected by the security patches.
      • Using r16.1, the x64 distribution uses the Microsoft Access Database Engine (ACE) driver for excel integration, which is not affected by the security patches.
      • Using r16.2 and later release version, both x64 and x86 utilize Open XML for excel integration, which is not affected by the security patches.
  • Workaround 2:
    • Keep MS Security Patches applied and complete the following steps:
      1. Find prior version (4.0.9801.0) of msexcl40.dll
        • Note: Can search windows for references to the .dll than right-click, select Properties and the Details tab to determine version of driver.  If you do not have a copy of the older version, you can remove the security patches to obtain the version, then reapply the patches after completing below steps.
      2. Place in another directory.
        • Note: This can be placed in any directory, or the working directory of P6 Professional
      3. Open the registry editor (Start > run > regedit)
      4. Browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel
      5. Double-click the 'Win32' string value and point to the location and name of the older msexcl40.dll copied to an alternate location in step b.
      6. Restart P6 Professional for the change to be picked up
  • Workaround 3:
    • Remove the noted security patches:
      1. Browse to Control Panel > Programs and Features
      2. Click "View Installed Updates"
      3. Find and remove the noted security updates
        • Windows 7: KB4041681 & KB4041678
        • Windows 10: KB4041676

Thank you Zoltan. Should I roll back the updates of Excel from the server or on the client computers?
