Question: Which task duration type is the best to use Fixed Duration, Fixed Work, or Fixed Units when unlinking remaining duration and physical percent complete?

Physical Percent Complete cannot be linked to Actual / Remaining Duration

Only % Complete and Work % Complete can be unlinked from Actual Duration, they are linked by default

Task Duration type is being used by MSP to compute the task duration / resource assignment units / resource assignment work when you change a value in the assignment; it is not used when you update the project either manually or automatically
