Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi

The free slack for a particular task is 0 days, but still in my programme it doesn’t appear like a critical task, when I go to view-more views- detail Gantt.

Can someone let me know what the reason behind this is? Even I checked in tools menu – options – calculation – tasks are critical if slack is equal or less than 0……..

Hi Chris,

I think you might be confusing Free Slack with Total Slack.

Free Slack (or Free Float) is the time available in a project network before a preceding task(s) delays the start date of succeeding task(s).

Total Slack (or Total Float) is the time available in a project network before a task delays the project end date.

Free Float can be 0days and not on be the critical path, whereas tasks with 0days Total Float will be.

Regards,

Darren
