Jun 2007 - Present          EDF Energy, Dungeness B Nuclear Power Stn

Outage Planner for statutory outages at Dungeness B Nuclear Power Station using P6. Trained as emergency dispatcher and continuing training as a Procurement Engineer to assist as and when needs arise.

Planning  Manager on the £3.5billion Tunnel Cooling Project for LUL using P3e

Nov 2005 – July 2006      Hornagold & Hills (located at their London Office)

Planning Engineer on various projects in rail, health and education sectors including Metronet 7th Car Circle project, Newham Hospital ward refurbishment, University of Hertfordshire new buildings projects and Havering College Quarles Campus refurbishment, using P3e and MPP.

May 2003 – Oct 2005       Hornagold & Hills (located at Tubelines)

Planning Engineer for Tube Lines using P3e/c. Worked on the Piccadilly Line extension to Heathrow Terminal 5 (junction works to connect into the original Heathrow Piccadilly loop), the 7th Car project and the Lifts and Escalators refurbishment and maintenance.

Feb 2001 – Apr 2003       Hornagold & Hills (located at Pfizer in Sandwich)

Planning Engineer, using P3, on the management team controlling the B530 pharmaceutical development building project for Pfizer at Sandwich. I initiated the implementation of EVA (Earned Value) systems. Transferred from self-employed to staff in November 2001.

Trading as FRAMEWORK 2000 LIMITED working on a contract basis:

Dec 2000 – Feb 2001       Astrium Ltd, located at Stevenage – Planning Engineer working on the plans for design and build of antenna systems for various satellites – left due to the expense of living in the Stevenage area.

Mar 2000 – Dec 2000       Johnson Controls, located at SmithKline Beecham, Tonbridge – Maintenance Planner covering for a short-term absence of personnel, planning maintenance work and minor projects to the pharmaceutical pilot plant at Tonbridge – left, as the rates were inadequate to cover expenses.

 

AUG 1998 - MAR2000     MACE Ltd

Programme Co-ordinator based at Blue Circle Medway, planning the £240M new Medway Cement Works. MACE provided the Project Management team and we took the project through a Public Inquiry to a point where the Secretary of State approval was anticipated. Note: Extensive analysis of rail pathways by me was necessary during the Inquiry (March 1999) to answer/counter various scenarios proposed by Medway Council via W S Atkins Rail.

 

SEP 1996 - JUL 1998       SELF EMPLOYED

Trading as FRAMEWORK 2000 LIMITED working on a contract basis:

Please note: The brevity of these contracts reflects the nature of the project e.g. shutdown (GEC) or corporate decisions e.g. Shell deciding to close Shell Haven Oil Refinery. My preference is to remain indefinitely with one company (contract or staff).

Nov '97 - Jul '98 Shell UK Downstream, located at Shell Haven Oil Refinery - Planning Engineer providing planning for new projects and maintenance activities. Implemented Earned Value techniques for project control based around OPP, ACCESS and EXCEL software packages. Projects were frequently resource levelled to assist in the control of fluctuating resource availability. Contract ended due to closure of oil refinery.

Apr '97 - Oct '97 GEC (Whetstone)- Planning Engineer on the Dungeness 'B' Nuclear Power Station Gas Circulator Outage, using P3 planning software and interfacing with the clients’ MS Project software. Contract ended due to completion of shutdown.

Mar '97 - Mar '97 Teknica (UK) Ltd- Senior Planning Engineer on the design through to construction and commissioning of Gas Oil Separation Plant (GOSP's), using OPP planning software. Contract ended due to decision to move design base to Tripoli.

Feb '97 - Feb '97 Stone & Webster Ltd- Senior Planning Engineer responsible for bid preparation and presentation and ongoing planning for established projects, using P3 planning software. Contract ended when the promised overseas package was not available.

Jan '97 - Jan '97 ADTRANS Ltd, Birmingham Office- Senior Planning Engineer preparing plans for bids, using P3 and SURETRAK planning software. Contract intended for short-term support only.

Sep '96 - Oct '96 London Underground Ltd- Planning Engineer planning engineering infrastructure improvements from inception, through design and procurement, into installation, commissioning and handover, using OPP. Regular site visits to evaluate progress and plan additional works were essential and to facilitate this I passed Fire Awareness, Fire Watchman and Track Accustomed courses. Contract ended due to change in funding by the government.

 

MAY 1995 - SEP 1996      PENSPEN LTD

Senior Cost & Planning Engineer, overseeing the creation of programmes for tender purposes as well as detailed Cost Control and Planning of any and every type of live project Penspen were conducting throughout the world. Cost Control was effected using EXCEL and the Planning software packages used were P3, OPP and TIME LINE. Alternative Cost and Planning packages were used as directed by Clients.

 

APR 1992 ‑ MAY 1995      THAMES POWER SERVICES LTD / BARKING POWER LTD

The Planning Manager on the management team for the construction of the Barking Power Ltd Combined Cycle Gas Fired Power Station. Duties included, for all grid entry and infrastructure work; Planning, Cost Monitoring and Analysis (in conjunction with the Cost Engineer), the review of Contractor and Sub-contractor programmes and inspection of manufacturing and construction sites to assess progress and earned value/cost status. Presentations to the Board were occasionally required during the early stages of the project. I also set up the Document Control System and created and managed all planning and document control procedures, as well as managing minor installation work e.g. Air Monitoring Stations. Basic Cost Control for use during progress review was effected using EXCEL, overall Cost Control was performed using a customised ORACLE database, while the Planning software used was SCHEDULE PUBLISHER and, later, P3.

 

JAN 1988 ‑ DEC 1991       REDIFFUSION SIMULATION LTD

Planning Team Leader managing a team, which prepared schedules for tenders and provided full planning services (including resourced networks and Earned Value Analysis) for aircraft simulator design/manufacture/delivery for Civil and Military projects. The software in use was ARTEMIS 6000.

 

APR 1986 ‑ OCT 1987      PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT OMAN LLC

Planning Engineer assigned to Engineering Projects, responsible for the creation and monthly updating of plans and schedules for projects, from the initial conception through to commissioning, start‑up and budget close‑out. The planning software in use was G.C CUE. Close liaison with the Cost Accountant and generally within the Engineering Construction Department was essential. Frequent visits to interior based sites were made.

 

JUL 1985 ‑ APR 1986       EWBANK PREECE LTD

Senior Cost & Planning Engineer assigned to plan the BP Arabian Agencies Jebel Ali Luboil Plant, Dubai. Planning was undertaken using PERTMASTER while LOTUS SYMPHONY and DBASE 3 software were used for Cost Control and reporting.

 

DEC 1984 ‑ JUN 1985       FOSTER WHEELER ENERGY LTD

Planning Engineer working at the Fife Ethylene Plant, Mossmorran with the Esso planning team, on the commissioning of the Hot Ends. I worked closely with the engineers responsible for the commissioning of this area and had responsibility for three estimators working in the field. The planning software in use was KORKUS. Additional presentations were made using the LOTUS 123.

 

MAY 1983 ‑ NOV 1984      McLELLAN AND PARTNERS

Planning Engineer working on a £100M+ project to re‑vamp the Port Talbot Steel Works, responsible for managing the planning package called INTERNET on an IBM mainframe. Five planning engineers had responsibility for various areas of work, for whom I acted as backup as necessary, plus undertaking any specialist use of INTERNET as required, e.g. creating and maintaining networks for work to be undertaken during extended mill shutdowns.

 

OCT 1980 ‑ APR 1983      SOLUS (MALAYSIA) SDN BHD

Project Field Engineer/Materials Engineer under contract to Sarawak Shell Berhad, working on the Central Luconia Gas Development Project (offshore platforms E11 & F23 and onshore the Bintulu Stabilisation Plant). For Installation and Commissioning, duties included onshore co-ordination and support of Engineering, plus location and procurement of materials. In addition, assisted with the preparation of plans and schedules using ARTEMIS. In Jan 1983, transferred to Trengannu on contract to Roblett International, as Site Planning & Cost Engineer for the Trengannu Crude Oil Terminal. Duties included the issue of all daily work, the monitoring of same (walking the job as appropriate), monitoring costs, presentation of status to the Client (Esso) and the introduction of computer based planning and scheduling, using both ARTEMIS (based at the EPMI head office in Kuala Lumpur) and HORNET on site.

 

JAN 1978 ‑ OCT 1980       HUNTING ENGINEERING LTD

Planning Engineer responsible for planning, scheduling and cost control of defence contracts. From Apr 1980 was placed under contract with the Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment, working on the R&D into production of a self-propelled howitzer. Duties included cost control, co-ordination of programmes, monitoring of progress and the processing of all information for the monthly progress reports. The Software in use was ARTEMIS.

 

SEP 1969 ‑ JAN 1978       BRITISH GAS ‑ EASTERN REGION

Sponsored through OND Engineering and B.Sc. Gas Engineering Distribution on sandwich courses and gained extensive experience in all aspects of regional gas supply, including Reforming Plant maintenance, general system maintenance, grid control, pipelining and LP system operation. On graduation, worked for the Transmission Department providing computer modelling and liaison with contractors on pipeline construction works.

Navigation Apprentice working on board large carriers undergoing training as a Deck Officer.
