Director of Programme Management, Mace Group, Programme Management services

START Date:
November, 2013
END Date:
May, 2015

I joined Mace in 2013 as Director responsible for the development and delivery of Programme Management services for the business. In line with the company’s 2020 strategic vision, I led the development of the strategy, focussing on securing new major programmes for the business and ensuring that over the next few years we built a cohort of people ready to take on these new challenges. This included major projects in their own right, as well providing consultancy services to infrastructure programmes across a number of industry sectors. In addition to this, I was responsible for Project Controls within the business, where we provided controls solutions on a wide range of projects predominantly here in the UK for clients such as National Grid, Jaguar Land Rover, United Utilities and Sellafield Ltd.

In 2014 we secured 9 new framework contract lots with Transport for London, to drive the growth of the Transportation business over the next 2 years as well securing the massive Dubai Expo 2020 programme with client ‘Dubai World Trade Centre’. The Expo contract remains the largest programme management contract in Mace’s 25-year history, eclipsing the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in terms of overall scale and fees earned. Works on Expo 2020 commenced in November 2014.

During my remaining time with Mace I successfully implemented an in-house accredited training programme providing project managers with their APMP accreditation. For the more advanced programme management skillset, I also established a partnership with Cranfield University providing a bespoke training programme based on the MSP Advanced Practitioner accreditation.

In 2014 Q3, I was appointed as the Head of the Quality Steering Group to oversee quality management for the whole of the Mace Consultancy business, looking after the ISO9001, 14001, 18001 and 27001 accreditation programme as well achieving Stage 1 accreditation for the BS11000 Collaborative Working Relationships framework.

In addition to the above, I worked directly with clients such as United Utilities on their AMP6 readiness review as well as the United Nations on providing programme management strategic advisory services in respect to their £500m refurbishment programme on the UN Offices in Geneva. I also established the first ICE Training Agreement for Mace and led the company-wide Supervising Civil Engineers panel to support all Civils candidates going for their Member Professional Reviews.
