Planning Engineer/ Project Coordinator, Buro Happold, Atturaif Historical City, Riyadh Saudi Arabia (2007 – 2010)

Client: Ar’Riyadh Development Authority

Project Co-ordination and Design Management of a new tourism destination and potential World Heritage listed site on the outskirts of the city of Riyadh. New construction elements included the establishment of visitor reception centre, visitor information centre, 13 separate museums, retail space, an iconic footbridge, stables, operational support facilities and several landscaped areas within this highly sensitive environment.

John acted as part of the client body (Ar’Riyadh Development Authority and Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities) to co-ordinate the masterplanning, design and construction of site infrastructure, heritage reconstruction, building services, new build structures, and interior planning for the heritage mud brick city. This involved secondment to the city of Riyadh (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) to support the ‘on the ground’ management of the project. John managed the tendering, award, supervision and administration of several different contracts on the client’s behalf.

His Project Co-ordinator duties included the preparation, maintenance and regular reporting on the project schedule(PRIMAVERA P6).
