Network Rail is in the process of replacing their current RETB radio system for the Far North and West Highland Lines in Scotland. After a life extension of infrastructure systems, the Next Generation RETB project is planning to Design, Manufacture, Test, Commission the replacement of the radio system element (NRN) as the frequencies used are due to be returned to OFCOM at the end of 2015. This involves replacement of the entire Token radio system, which comprises Racks in the Signaler’s Box, Radio/Cell Repeater sites, Hand Held, (CDU) Cab Display Unit, (DTU) Depot Test Units, TRCM sites. This system controls and allows safe Single Line Traffic of Train movements. There is a large civil requirement for the additional Aerial Mast foundations, which comprise of rebar and in some areas foundation piling as required.
