Peter Simon  BSc HonFAPM PMP

Peter Simon has over 35 years of experience as a project management consultant and practitioner across all industries and business sectors. He has built a professional reputation as a particularly knowledgeable and skilled advisor and trainer, particularly in those areas related to project management, programme management, project planning, risk management and resource management. The last ten years of this time has been as Director of Lucidus Consulting Limited.

In his early career he worked for a variety of organisations across the Oil and Gas, Utilities and Transportation sectors as a project management and project services practitioner and was responsible for all aspects of project planning and control and risk management for projects based in Europe, USA and the Middle East. In his later career he has achieved significant success in building the project management consultancy and training arms of the PMProfessional group of companies in addition to many years as a successful freelance project management consultant and a period as European Technical Director for ESI International.

Recently Peter was engaged as a risk specialist on a major government change programme and on the development of project management competence for an international pharmaceutical company. In the past he was project manager for the Association for Project Management’s (APM) Body of Knowledge 5th Edition. He continues his work to develop project management capability through practical development workshops for a range of companies.

Peter is a co-developer of the Introductory Certificate and Practitioner Qualifications for APM. The first is an ‘entry level qualification’ and the second is designed to determine project management capability at an assessment centre. He has also worked on revisions to the APMP and on the development of the Single Subject Certificates in Project Risk Management.

Peter was an elected member of the Association for Project Management’s Council (APM) from 1998 – 2001 and was a Trustee and Board Member from 2008 - 2009.  He was Chairman of the APM’s Risk SIG for four years and was Project Manager and Managing Editor of the APM’s PRAM Guide published in October 1997.  He was elected as an Honorary Fellow of APM in 2014.

Peter is qualified as a Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Advanced Practitioner, a PRINCE2 Practitioner and Management of Risk (M_o_R) Practitioner. His experience is supported membership of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) and is PMP© certfication.  He also holds the APMP and APMPQ qualifications.

Peter has written many published papers on subjects relating to project management including risk management, resource management and satisfying the client’s requirements. This published work ensures that Peter’s vast and still developing expertise in project management is passed on for the benefit of others. He is also co-author of two books; ‘Starting Out in Project Management – Study Guide for the APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management’ and ‘Practical Project Risk Management: the ATOM Methodology’; both of which are in their second editions.  This second book was awarded the 2013 PMI David I. Cleland Project Management Literature Award for the best project management related book in 2013.
