     PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

When completed the Adelaide Desalination Plant (ADP) will supply 50GL/PA of potable water, which is about 20% of Adelaide’s total water requirements. The ADP will be one of the most advanced Salt Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plants in the world, utilizing a combination of water technologies not used anywhere else in Australia in turn making it the most energy efficient plant in use.

The plant has also been designed so that its output capacity can be easily doubled to 100GL/PA, should the need arise.

AdelaideAqua is a consortium of 4 companies who together will Design, Construct, Operate and Maintain the Adelaide Desalination Plant.

The work is covered by 2 Contracts, 1 for D&C and 1 for O&M.

The D&C Contract is being undertaken by an unincorporated joint venture consisting of Abigroup, Acciona Agua & McConnell Dowell.

The O&M Contract is with a company called AdelaideAqua Pty Ltd, which is owned by Acciona Agua and United Utilities (UU Australia Holdings Pty Ltd).

During construction there will be a very close working relationship between the D&C and O&M teams to ensure that the plant is “built right” achieving the required water quality and quantities at the lowest cost.

The total project is worth in excess of $1.8 billiion and involves extensive earthworks, piling, tunneling (2 tunnels), building and plant fit out activities to be completed in a very tight timeframe, delivering First Water by Dec 2010 (this is not the plant completion date!).
