Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

File does not show on screen.
I have access to a remote server that holds P3 files. Up on till recently I have been able to open and work on all these files. Now when I open a particular directory, (other directories are OK) I can view the programme files, but not open them. When I open, I can see the process starting in the lower left hand screen,(extracting files, initalising printer)stops the process and then P3 then reverts back from this drive to my C drive. If I have had a programme file open on screen, from another directory this file has then been closed. I can copy the files from this rogue directory to another directory, but they still fail to open.
Other planners on the network have no problem, can any person help.
Many thanks,
George

To all,
Many thanks for all the suggestions, reinstalled P3 and problems solved. I have kept a copy of my old P3 and projects to try and figure out the cause. If I solve it I will post.

Jaco,
Answer Q1 Can see Overview Etc

Answer Q2 If I have P3 open the Message is "Cannot start more than one copy of the specifed program"
If P3 is closed and I double click Lay File, P3 Opens as normal and then starts to try to open the specified file and continues as described previously IE closes at 2nd/3rd opening process.

Answer Q3 Created new user, and process is as answered in Q2

Hi George

1) A couple of more Qeustions When you go file open can you see the Overview (Targets etc)(Without opening the file)

2) If you Double click on the Lay file in explorer does it open p3. If no what does it ask for.

3) Have you checked netset. Try and create a different you in Netset.

Jaco, Have arranged to reinstall P3 this morning. No restricted access to files. Server speed has not changed.(still fast) Kamran, Copy or Back Up/Restore are functioning in as far as all the files can be seen in Explore, but fail to open. P3 does not show any error message, but as stated starts to go through the opening process and then disappears of the sreen. Regards, George

George

I would suggest reinstall P3.(Sometimes this is easier)
I would also check the access to the files. (Restricted access)
Also have a look at what speed you are connected to the server sometimes this might be a problem.

Cheers

George, could you please tell us the exact error message that P3 will show you when it fails to open?(if any) I mean the exact way that software responds.
Beside of that, have you tested Copy or Back up/Restore features are functioning for this particular plan?
thanks

As you know, P3 has several files, maybe you need to check if all the files/layout are complete. Maybe one of the files have been accidentally deleted or corrupted. you can do this by comparing it to the number of files on another file/project.

Hope this helps.

Daniel

I do not know what Primavera Support told you to do. Did you run Primavera’s PFXW.exe program against the schedule to verify and correct for any data errors?

Have you copied the files to your own computer and tried to open them?

Hello George,

If everyone in your network is able to open the p3 files then something would be wrong with your access rights, may be you can use anyone of your friend’s user name and pwd(with their permission) to login into your system and try whether you can open those p3 files or not. If it is not resolved may be you can contact p3 dealer or your network administrator for further help.

Cheers!!!
