Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi there,

I loaded the estimate into my project plan in MSP 2007 as cost and material resources. When is a cost resource used?

When I enter % complete, it also calculate my actual cost. I did untick this option but it keeps on doing it. How do I enter my actual costs for each month into the program? How do I get the program not to calculate my actual costs from the % complete, but rather enter it myself on a monthly basis.

Regards,

Maarten

Maarten, It may look strange, but the cost type resource is not working properly not only in 2007 but also in 2010. It is distorting the EVM calculation and you can't use it anymore. The only way is to keep a separated resource in material type, like in the old times of MS 2003. I said it would seem strange, but in fact it is really a misconception of theory and a big unsolved bug. best regards, Marcus Possi

Cost resources are not updated by the tracking % complete buttons and must be entered manually.  The option to stop the updating of the materials costs is controlled by Tools --> Options --> Calculation --> Updating task status updates resource status.  If you turn that off, you will separate the update to the material resource values.  However, you will also not be updating work completed either.

I hope this helps.
