(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Problem with duration and allocation of resources

I’ve created a project which is supposed to be for 9 nine months. The start date is 6th July 2009 and is supposed to end on 28th April 2010. Tasks have been set up as such. However, the duration shows that it runs 12.75 months though it shows duration fom July to April. Secondly, how do I resolve resource over allocation.

Christian,

As I know normally there are there way to avoid the over allocation.

1.leveling the resource, which will result in a slippage of project due date
2.To change work sequence if possible, after you find out the resource over-allocation related tasks
3.Add more resource if you could find the Santa Claus whose new office is next to yours

Work over time is the worst/effective choice if your resource is limited and project due date is fixed. In my industry, night shift is normal for the extra cost for this is valuable.

Thanks. That sorted me out regarding the duration. Will wait for your help on resolving the issue of overallocation.

Guess this related to your setting on calendar. Pls check Tools - Options - Calendar, days per month (if your activities work is entered in day, same path update schedule option); or hours per day/week...Got to go to catch the bus. will try to reply your second question
