Senior Project Controls Specialist, Fluor Daniel SA, QMM Ilmenite Mine for Rio Tinto (Fort Dauphin, Madagascar)

START Date:
August, 2007
END Date:
April, 2010

First based in the Home Office Projects Control environment in Johannesburg, where I developed and maintained the Master Project Schedule, during the engineering & procurement phase of the project.

My responsibilities involved co-ordination with engineering and procurement departments to manage the drawing and equipment delivery interfaces with the schedule.

During the construction phase, I was site based in Madagascar, where I was also the ‘Milemarker’ practitioner (a Fluor system for measuring progress and performance).

After setting up the system, I was able to prepare and analyse the Contractor tracking sheets. These tracking sheets are issued by each of the ‘on-site contractors’ on a weekly basis for compilation and analysis. Full integration and management of all contractors schedules

With this information we measure engineering and construction progress using an earned value basis. The output of Milemarker is progress and performance charts and reports. It is the key tool, along with the schedule, to drive the construction.

This information was part of the weekly deliverables, which in turn was communicated to the project management team. It also formed the basis for progress recorded on the monthly report for the client.
