BAA Planning Manager

START Date:
November, 2007
Within this role I have successfully lead the group of Strategic Planners within BAA for the last 10 months. This is a multi-user, multi-programme environment with a wide variety of stakeholders and work scopes. A primary success factor in my delivery of this role has been to identify and utilise the skills that are present with my team.

My focus has been upon the assurance of the technical delivery by the teams. To do this I have initiated integrated Peer Reviews of the Strategic Master Schedule in order to assess the data, offer guidance and support and to identify areas of risk. As this process has matured it encompassed both the Scheduling and Project Controls Communities. This has resulted in improved integration between data sets and across programmes. I have also performed several critical deep-dive reviews into a specific scope of work either to support a defined deliverable (such as the support I provided for Steps 5/6/7), or to perform a critique of the quality of work being delivered (such as the T3 and T4 reviews) via appraisal and Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis.

As part of the wider role I support the Assurance of projects entering through the Governance and Integrated Baseline Review processes. This requires me to understand the projects and programmes within their wider contexts in order to support successful delivery. To achieve this I have demonstrated excellent levels of professional strength, diplomacy and influence - occasionally within a position of conflict - to deliver BAA’s programme requirements.

To support the efficient delivery of the Master Schedule I have implemented process improvement through procedural change to reduce effort and errors. In addition I have also acted as the Expert User role for the delivery of new IT tools (P6 and Pertmaster); these changes have enabled teams to interrogate contractors’ detailed schedules and better support BAA with its obligations under NEC3 principles.
