I have just completed my second book-signing event at Chapters-Chinook, Calgary, AB.

Unique to the day's experience was a lively discussion with a group of young students. They were highly inquisitive and showed genuine interest on the subject of risk and risk-based management.

Plan and Schedule: Planner and Scheduler

While working in a mega-project with one of the biggest North American construction outfit, a number of our construction planners/schedulers were brushed aside more than a few times by their respective foreman (supervisor).

Two foremen sarcastically said they need no plan or schedule. One added that planners and schedulers are just pencil pushers who are good only in recording what they have already done.

Planning and Scheduling - Stage 1

Conception bring us to a time before any recorded execution plan and schedule. It is the zero point in time where the fate of the project is most uncertain. From this origin comes initiation or Stage 1.

A feasibility study and a business case becomes the primary foundation of stage 1. It has to be strongly aligned to the business overall strategy. If it is not, it is best to kill the project before it takes further roots.

My First Book Signing @ Indigo-Signal Hills, Calgary

20-May-2017 My first book signing event went well today at Indigo Signal Hill. I met a lot of interesting, intelligent people and was able to introduce the book to them. Had some lively discussion with a few who said that the book was timely. Some promised to check online. My next book signing event is after two weeks, June 3, 2017, Saturday, at Chapters Chinook. I hope to see some of you there! It's another good day today!

Egad! It is the Most Likely Schedule!

Most Likely Schedule, what is it?

Project Schedule Baseline Top Ten Prerequisites

The project shall develop the schedule according to the level of details prescribed in each Gate or Phase. Each Gate shall have a schedule baseline. Approval of the schedule baseline is necessary before the project crosses each Gate until the execution Gate.

It is critical to analyze trends and variances using data derived from the schedule on regular basis. The project quantifies the deviations from the target. Threats and opportunities become clearer and decision-making becomes easier.

Phantom Schedules

Construction planner and scheduler Frank Lee was at it again. He was in the process of creating and developing another phantom project schedule for the Project Control Manager. The initiative started when the Project Manager complained to the Project Controls Manager.
