Civil Engineer-Scheduler & Cost Estimator, from government to private companies, Vertical and Horizontal Projects

START Date:
June, 1998

From my past working experiences, as a Civil Engineer, I had been into project implementation but only to small scale construction projects . I did various government infrastructures including road concreting and road rehabilitation. Quantity take-off from small to medium sized buildings and other structures like multi-purpose halls and water supply system. I was doing this job for almost 8 years in my career.

As a Jr. Geodetic Engineer, I was exposed to road surveying, relocation works and subdivision of lots. This experience had given me somehow a little spice on my career because of career diversion. A new experience and a new learning. I was doing this job for almost 4 years.

I got a chance to work with a group of professionals in a project management team. That time, planning is unknown to me. But I was doing the work of contract management, document control and civil inspection. This was a very short term experience but it created a good impact to my career. Because after this experience, I was hired for a big project in Dubai, The Dubai Metro Rail. I was not hired as a techinical staff but as a Project Document Controller. Initially i felt it was a career degradation, but I had learned to accept the need to start my career from the lowest level and climb up as I become familiar with how the system works in Dubai. It was such a difficult transition but I worked hard to be recognized as engineer.

After the Dubai Metro Project, I applied for a QS job and luckily one precast company accepted my previous experience from Document Controller to QS/Planner. But before that, I had a formal training on Cost Control Engineering from one of the training institute in Dubai. I attended the basic training in Primavera then proceeded with the advance one. While trying to equipped myself with these tools, I went to an extended school in Dubai taking up Master in Business Administration. I completed this course last June 2013 (from June 2011). Perhaps one reason why I was accepted by the previous company was because they had seen my journey, I strived hard to reach my goal.

After 2 years and 8 months of working with precast company, I started to get bored. I don't feel the challenge anymore. I feel I am not becoming productive. So I decided to take a more challenging role and that is being with a general contractor's firm. In this firm, there are lots pressures that I need to deal. I will always have to be composed and should not be breaking down when I am confronted with deadlines.

This is my brief narrative work experiences.
