Senior Engineer (Project Manager), AECOM, Network Rail, Llangefni to Gaerwen Branch Line Re-opening Feasibility Study

AECOM was commissioned to undertake a feasibility study investigating re-opening of 4 miles of the Gaerwen to Amlwch branch line in Anglesey, Wales; Out Of Use for 17 years. 

Deliverables produced included a GRIP Stage 1 Output Definition Report (ODR), Layout Drawing, high level Bill of Quantities (in support of an Order of Magnitude Estimate Anticipated Final Cost) and draft Powerpoint presentation for the Welsh Assembly Government.

The study comprised a desktop study and site visit and considered the feasibility of re-opening the line in relation to the following infrastructure elements:

Permanent way, signalling, switches and crossings, operational telecoms, operational property, structures, cuttings and embankments, drainage and fencing, planning and regulatory requirements. 

A high level environmental and ecological appraisal was undertaken and advice given in relation to clearance of the existing dense vegetation; required to enable further investigations during later GRIP stages
