Trainee Civil Engineer –Full-time ( 1 day a week university )

August 2006 – August 2009

My main job was to set out the works on site such as batter rails,

centre lines of roads, structures etc, checking levels of concrete pours, issuing permits of work etc.

As the job progressed i had to constantly check and mack sure that whatever i was working on had to be built according to the designer’s drawings and to the correct specification and standards.

I supervised work such as the Kirkintilloch link road burn diversion, setting out earthworks, checking and surveying once built therefore while doing this i used instruments such as the theodolights, GIS and drawing programs such as Auto –CAD which i consider myself confident upon using on request.

Again as the works progressed i had to make sure there were no obstacles before works commenced in certain parts of the job therefore planning and construction problem solving and accurate programming is vital to avoid the job from stopping causing the site to lose money.

Many method statements and permits to dig were done by myself or assisted upon for onsite such as the burn diversion, drainage installations and small timber bridges, piling, lime-stabilisation and some concrete structures.

I have done a lot of surveying for drainage, designing solutions to help stop flooding on site, also measuring the drainage needed and helped to order in from the buyer.

Piling work was another major job I was mainly involved in, I had to supervise the pile team, making sure piles where in the correct positions and levelled accurately, re-enforcement decking slabs were constructed and checked correct for the right steel, bar spacing and quantified.

Studying design drawings was a major factor through the process of construction and I feel as if I have vastly improved since starting with Carillion.

I have been to various Health and safety courses, Health and safety Management and many more.
