Freelance Project Planner, Seimens VAI, Shutdown for Refurbishment of a Hot Strip Mill in India

START Date:
June, 2005
END Date:
August, 2007

My main role was to prepare and implement as a project shutdown planner for a 32 day 24 hour shutdown on a modernisation of a hot strip mill in India. This project required me to make several trips to India prior to the shutdown in order to finalise the detailed Primavera plan and understand the work ahead. I worked very closely with the project manager, site manager and the client. The plan was highly detailed due to the short time scaled required for this work. One of the key constraints was the number of cranes and the their position. The shutdown appeared to be running late but time was gained at the back end of the project. I left the project prior to commissioning with a very happy client. Afterwards, I returned to the Sheffield office to work on two new hot strip mills projects in India worth a little over £50 million to Siemens. These were in the design and procurement stages. I left to end my days as a contractor.
