REAL Alliance – Volker Rail                                                                           January 2015 – July 2015

I am working as a Planner through Volker Rail, supplied to REAL (Rail Electrification Alliance Ltd.)

The REAL Alliance Ltd. is a £248m programme of electrification works to improve the power supply on the East Coast Main Line. These works will not only provide the extra power needed for the enhanced train services, but also greater resilience and reliability. The project is currently funded to £48m (Truncated Scope) with the remaining scope as PSU1 undergoing value engineering and re-bid exercise.

In my role I have produced and maintained Box plan using Excel to mirror the P6 programme for Construction phase (Grip 6) of the Truncated scope showing Compound (sub-station) works, Power to OLE works, Lineside Civil route works, cable pulls and piling. SCADA systems and Telecoms migration works & signalling.

I have produced the programme in P6 for the PSU1 scope to do this I developed and aligned the WBS for geographical representation of route and Grip stages for Grip 5 –Detail Design, Grip 6 – Construction, Grip 7 Hand back and Grip 8 Closeout. I was responsible for the analysis of the Detail Design Programme and roll up of activities to identify the design process and durations and input into the PSU1 programme, logically linking and scheduling the relevant works to the design AFC dates.

Other key inputs I had to the planning process were:

  • Extracting information & Data from the discipline managers
  • Providing a quality check of the Quantity Schedule excel spreadsheets and entry into the programme
  • Aligning key resource teams (OLE) and ROTR and disruptive access for the works
  • Produce hour by hour programmes to support weekend working
  • Conducted discipline reviews of the PSU1 programme activities and logic
  • Extracting data and obtaining agreement of the relevant Discipline Managers
  • Part of the Programme review and produced the presentation to the Project Alliance Board (PAB) in PowerPoint
