Chris is an extraordinary individual of almost superhuman energy and enthusiasm in promoting and developing the concepts of expertise and professionalism in Project Controls around the world.

I have known Chris as early as 2004 attending annual conventions of AACE International. We have worked closely on developing Recommended Practices and writing and presenting technical papers at these annual conventions. I have been involved in the leadership of the Planning & Scheduling Subcommittee sponsored by AACE International since 2003.

Chris is extremely active in the work performed by the Planning & Scheduling and the Claims and Dispute Resolution Subcommittees. Since 2008, he has authored (or co-authored ) 5 or more Recommended Practices, made significant contribution to at least 5 others, and is in the process of developing more Recommended Practices.

In 2006, Chris presented his first technical paper at the AACE Annual Convention and has gone on to author and present a grand total of 15 papers, including the #1 rated presentation at the 2012 Annual Convention. He often uses this technical and communication-building exercise to develop and engage others first in Alpha Corporation and now with Arcadis Corporation, where he is director of Project Controls. Chris regularly teams-up with members of his company staff to help them begin their own career in technical scholarship with various professional organizations.

Chris uses his corporate position to also encourage other members of his organization to join and participate in membership in various professional organizations. Every qualified scheduler in his company has been pushed by Chris to become Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certified. Through Chris’s effort, his last company (Alpha Corporation) has one of the highest percentage of PSP certified schedulers in AACE international.

I once asked Chris why he put so much time and energy in helping other organizations develop competing standards and practices when he could just concentrate on one organization. Chris startled me by his answer.  Chris told me he feared that competing standards that conflicted in particulars would cause confusion and mistrust of all of the published standards, including the Recommended Practices and certifications on which I was working with him. Chris joined (and often led) these ‘outside’ efforts because the work was already underway and he wanted to ensure that all of the standards agreed in the essential concepts. So while Chris strongly believes in the goals of particular organizations, he has a larger perspective that encompasses the entire profession, not only AACE International.

For the above reasons and more that I have simply overlooked due to the sheer volume of his work, I strongly encourage you to consider and accept Chris Carson, FAACE, PSP, CEP, DRMP, CCM, PMP as worthy to be called a Fellow of Project Controls of the Guild of Project Controls.
