With over 25 years of Complex Program and Project Management experience.  Geoff has an extensive track record of achieving commercial success within high technology, rapidly changing, high risk environments.

Geoff’s experience covers the Telecommunications, IT, Defence, System Integration and Public service sectors, managing projects from investment analysis, through portfolio management and program / project management of development, transition / transformation, to operational support and outsourcing projects.

Achievements:

  • Developed the PMO, Project Services and Transformation Program elements of Optus’ Tender Response to the JP2047 Defence Telecommunications Network RFT.  Negotiated the same with Defence.  This is reported as a “$1BN plus” project.
  • Set up and Managed Telstra’s Centre of Excellence in Project Management, with 154 Project Managers undertaking projects from concept through to handover to operations and support.
  • Managed a team of up to 110 Project Managers and Engineers in the development of ANZ’s Super Regional Network Transformation to 178 International sites.  Some sites required coordination of over 1000 people in the changes, logistics and testing.  The bulk of this team were international technical staff.  (Singapore, India, Pacific)
  • Managed 105 staff in Telstra’s Retail IT Program, delivering 160 IT Projects with a budget of $400M per annum.  Increased Key Performance Metrics substantially:
    • Budget achievement increased from ~20% to 80%+
    • Quality compliance increased from ~15% to 70%+
    • Schedule achievement increased from <20% to 80%+
    • Staff losses reduced from ~ 50% per annum down to less than 5% per annum)
  • At the request of Centrelink’s CIO, set up the Program Management Processes for Centrelink’s Enterprise Data Warehouse to enable concurrent development of multiple projects on the one system.  Saw the first system go live under the methods developed.
  • Consulted to a range of Telecommunications, IT, and Government organisations on Project Management improvements
  • Managed the development of Telstra’s Proposal in response to the Federal Government National Broadband Network NBN (originally the Fibre-To-The-Node (FTTN) Network) $5B+ Request For Proposal
  • Chairing Telstra’s Project Management Council and writing the Telstra Operating Principles for Projects (the highest level policy).
  • Being General Manager designate for the GEC-Marconi-Telstra Joint Venture and planning the completion of its assigned $1000+M Project
  • Managing one of only 2 of Telstra’s Transformation Release1 projects to release on time (and below budget)
  • Successfully managing the Bidding, Planning, Negotiations and Transformation of a 50,000 seat desktop outsourcing contract
  • Successfully managing the planning, negotiating and signing of the outsourcing of the IBM Global Network to Telstra as part of a $6,000 M contract
  • As Manager Contract Acquisition for Telstra, managing the bidding (acquisition) of all Telstra commercial contracts over $1M in size, and substantially increasing their win rate while remaining within budgets
  • As Marketing and Business Strategy Manager for Advantra, participating in its growth from $60M per annum to over $600M per annum.
