In approximately three years in the role have been responsible for programme and tender preparation of approximately sixty tenders.
Senior Engineer / Site Agent / Senior Agent - 2000 to 2007
Responsible for the planning/management, financial targeting and implementation of Health and Safety, Environmental best practice and Quality on the Midlands Omnibus Contract. The BW Omnibus contract has completed approximately 450 projects since commencement in 2000.
Noteworthy projects completed:
Foxton Locks, Leicestershire – Value £2.1m
Involved from design feasibility stage in the redevelopment of an existing canal basin to enhance the visual appearance and improve the usability of an existing Scheduled Ancient Monument. The Works were carried out during normal navigation periods at the peak of the tourist season. Extensive client liaison was required throughout project. Project featured in New Civil Engineer magazine.
Holt Weir, River Severn - Value £0.8m
Installation of new weir crest, grout mattress and concrete repairs to an existing river weir requiring diver assistance throughout. Welfare and plant was stored on stabilised pontoons and extensive river based material transfer was required due to remote locality of site. This project was short listed for the ICE Midlands Awards 2004 and was featured in New Civil Engineer magazine.
Farmers Bridge Locks - Value £1.2m
Refurbishment of 13No locks on the Birmingham Mainline canal extending through the city centre. Works were carried out during a stoppage period with extensive pedestrian diversions implemented for public safety.
Engine Arm Aqueduct
Upgrade in listed status of original Thomas Telford structure by initial investigation and subsequent reduction in existing leakage followed by heritage sympathetic repairs of long term water damage
Owen Street Bridge, Tipton
Demolition and modification of a main high street bridge to upgrade loading requirements to European standard
Urban renewal projects for Borough Councils
Delivery of numerous third party funded towpath and bridge renewal projects on the Birmingham Mainline Canal to encourage community use of canals.
BW Omnibus – South Wales projects
Based at satellite office managing direct labour and subcontract projects through the BW partnership with South Wales based client. In a two year period, delivered approximately fifteen projects ranging approximately £0.2-0.5m. These include the renewal of listed bridges, aqueducts, culverts, sluices, weirs and locks on the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal.
