Ed Zublin AG Senior Planner

START Date:
July, 2007
At first as a Planning Engineer, I have solely managed to execute the general planning and scheduling responsibilities of Data Center, Offices & Car Park Building Project. The project was an EPC contract worth AED380 million which was a complex of Structural works & highly advanced Tier-IV design compliant MEP works that is primarily intended to cater the Information Technology advancement and Data Integration of Abu Dhabi area by Injazat Data Systems. With Primavera-5 (P5) planning and scheduling software, I have defined and sequence the activities, estimated its resources, estimated the activities durations and finally developed the Master Program of Work as the project baseline schedule which was continually monitored and updated during the project’s progress. Have also incorporated the various approved scope changes into the baseline schedule and made it the major component in the analysis and presentation of the project time extension claims. Dissemination of project schedule’s vital statistical information such as forecast of completion, accomplishment percentage, resources utilization and optimization, and look-ahead schedules was a periodic support to the project team through meetings, reports and as required. Construction methodologies analysis and recommendations was also carried out in support to the engineering and construction sections.
Simultaneous with the above Data Center project at its 75% completion, I was also tasked to be involved in the Master Program of Work development for the company aspired Khalifa Bin Zayed National Stadium Project in Abu Dhabi worth (+/-) AED5 billion. The project is proposed to be a FIFA Standard compliant football stadium of 65,000 seating capacity for holding world club championships. On this project, I achieved the role of being a Senior Planning Engineer with two planning engineers as subordinates. Our planning team has conceptualized the entire project scheduling approach and using the Primavera-3 (P3) scheduler, we developed the Master Program of Work comprising of over 13,000 activities wherein 70% of which had been accomplished by me specifically in the fields of procurement processes, required temporary works and facilities, substructure works, superstructure works, and the whole MEP works. Currently, with the major EPC Contract that is yet at the tender stage (temporarily got hold off due to economic recession), the company has already completed a total of almost AED500 Million worth of the project’s initial works such as the permanent piling, site offices, labor camp, perimeter fencing, concrete batching plant and various temporary MEP installations. All of those executed initial works was covered in the Master Program of Work which was continually monitored and updated including the approved scope changes which has been made a major component in the analysis, justification and presentation of time extension claims adopting the agreed “Impacted Baseline Methodology” as per AACE specifications. In support to the Engineering team, we assisted in the planning, analysis and preparation of the different construction methodologies for the Substructure, Superstructure, MEP and Architectural Finishing phases with activity code book and color coded drawing layouts for ease in work program comprehension by its reader. Meetings, discussions, and workshops are also attended with the concerned project stakeholders on matters concerning the planned aspects, project risks, and further planning development.
While undertaking the above project, I was also tasked to do tender work programs preparation in support to our company’s bid of getting projects. Various types of complex work programs were developed using the required Primavera versions P3, P5 or P6.2. Complexity of developed work programs was tailored as per the project tender requirements in specifications and as per issued drawings. Type of structures that was dealt with on those tender work programs varies from infrastructure works to buildings along with the architectural (fit-out/finishes) and MEP works.
Current assignment is in the execution of a Sheik Zayed Desert Learning Center and UAE World Desert Project in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi worth AED370 Million. The project is for Al Ain’s Zoo extension that is vastly of infrastructure, landscaping, and mainly featuring a landmark 10-storey building with 4-levels in the underground (substructure) that is mostly non-planar in shape with huge cantilever parts. I have developed its detailed Master Program of Works (+/- 3,500 activities) in P6 scheduler with resources and cost loading. As a project requirement, the percentage completion derived in the periodic update of the Master Program of Work is the Client’s basis of progress payments. With the current project execution, I am in assistance to the Project Manager and other section heads for project monitoring and control measures.
