EVA 23: ANTICIPATION

FORWARD FACING PROJECT CONTROLS

Now in its 23rd year, EVA in the UK is leading independent event for project controls and earned value management founded and curated by Steve Wake.

Originally conceived to champion the use of EVM in the UK EVA has grown in focus and perspective. It champions new thinking and original thought and avoids treading the same grapes year in year out.

Possibly the best networking opportunity for senior practitioners and exhibitors in the UK. This year EVA23 will focus strongly on the things that enable us to be ready! Things that prepare us for anything that lies ahead. More than ever a redefinition, a re-setting of what Project Management actually is for, what you use, how you do it and above all, how you communicate with it, is urgently required.

About EVA23

The annual two-day conference takes place at the superb Armourers' Hall in Moorgate, London. The event provides an interesting group of high-level speakers covering a range of topics and industries. EVA23 will be different, entertaining and informative. Dinner will be served in the Hall by candlelight. Come along to talk, listen, learn, discuss and see how best to get project controls right. 3 Specialist workshops are also available outside the conference dates. Including Steve Wake introducing EVM and its use as a management tool for the present day.

Who should attend?

Attendees are middle to very senior professionals with interests in project management, project controls, earned value and keen to learn more about wider issues of transformation, successful change, and benefits-driven portfolios. Attendees can claim 15 hours of professional development on attending this event. It’s not too late to sponsor or exhibit. Sponsor doc available on request. Groups of 4 or more can get a 20% discounted rate or free dinner by applying directly to Steve Wake.

Steve can be contacted on swprojects@blueyonder.co.uk

IT PROJECT MANAGERS: HOW TO ADAPT AND THRIVE IN THE DEVOPS ERA - CLARIZEN

5564

The rise of DevOps has unleashed a range of technical, workforce and business benefits, including: more deployments, faster lead times, shorter recovery times, lower change failure rates, less unplanned and rework, and even happier people. Indeed, as noted by open source configuration tool maker Puppet, enterprises that boost performance through DevOps methodologies enjoy greater employee loyalty as measured by employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS).

What’s not to love?

Well, more than a few project managers aren’t too enthusiastic about the rise of DevOps, because some of the generalized practices that work fine in conventional project environments don’t transfer over into DevOps culture.  Read more...

HOW TO DO ROLLING WAVE PLANNING IN PRIMAVERA P6 - PLAN ACADEMY

5568

One of the biggest challenges with building project schedules is that often you don’t know the details of a piece of work but you need it on your schedule regardless.

Yes, you know you need to say remediate an area once you’ve installed the watermain underground.

But early in the project, the finer details of what that remediation might look like are scarce.

Enter Rolling Wave Planning...

If you work in IT or software development, everyone knows about Rolling Wave Planning. It’s the foundation of iterative methodologies like SCRUM or Lean. But maybe you didn’t know we can also apply it to construction projects.

What is Rolling Wave Planning?

Rolling Wave planning is a planning technique that involves elaborating more detail in your schedule as more information is available, or as you get nearer to the execution of the work. The idea is to plan in waves and clarify assumptions and approach as the execution of that a piece of work gets nearer. Read the full article here...

PULL PLANNING OR TRADITIONAL CPM – HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD START USING PULL PLANNING

5570

One common question that is always present in every project conversation: how do you engage the stakeholders to provide their input and convert it into a collaborative approach?

Pull planning is a collaborative process that can help to get buy-in from all project participants using a backward pass, pulling activities into the process.

Pull planning is a lean process and is starting to substitute many scheduling techniques and works by identifying activities that are compressed to reduce overall activity duration.
