Project Controls Compendium and Reference - Module 03 Managing SCOPE

Dear Planning Planet & Guild of Project Controls Members,

Following on from last weeks mail where we explained that the global teams of practitioners have reached a stage where we can start communicating the Guild of Project Controls Compendium and Reference - our GPCCAR

This week we are opening up Module 03 - "Managing Scope"

2432

60,000 Guild page views last week!

We have deliberately moved to Module 3 as the current module is the second of four which make up the subject matter for the FOUNDATION LEVEL Certification.

We will shortly announce how EMPLOYERS CAN BE INVOLVED IN THE GUILD - if you wish to be a Guild Liaison in your company contact admin@guildofprojectcontrols.com and we will send you details.

FROM THE ABOVE:

We have been asked (by the community) to rollout the Planning & Scheduling Foundation Level documentation first.  This consists of the following modules from our overall GPCCAR...

  • 01 Managing Project Controls - is LIVE
  • 03 Managing Scope - is now LIVE
  • 07 Managing Planning & Scheduling - next week (hopefully)
  • 09 Managing Progress & Performance - the week after next (all being well)

Keep those emails coming in; we are amazed at the feedback and expressions of interest to help - thanks everyone.

Together we are making a difference...  if you want to HELP IMPROVE THIS MODULE - get in touch

MANAGING SCOPE:

This module sets out the basics and points to "read more" references which aim to explain:

  • Managing the Scope Procedure
  • Validating Stakeholder Expectations
  • Creating the Work Breakdown Structure
  • Creating the Control Accounts
  • Accepting Completed Deliverables

Note - Managing change, or "scope creep" is covered in the "Managing Change" module.

The Guild of Project Controls Compendium and Reference (GPCCAR) is a suite of process-based documents which demonstrate what 1,000's of contributors believe constitutes Project Controls.    The global community of time and cost practitioners / managers are collaborating and this is the result.

The GPCCAR effectively frames the opinions of the Global Project Controls Community.

The exciting part is that ANYONE with an opinion (and justification) is free to propose amendments and additional references.  This is an ever evolving global statement as to what we, the practitioners, believe constitutes our role as "time and cost managers".

This is "by us, for us" so have your say!  Maybe it doesn't reflect your industry sector, or how YOU do it or maybe it is just plain WRONG!?

....tell us and lets incorporate that

WHATS NEXT?

As you may already know, each week we will be releasing the next module and at the footer of each of the Modules there are details of how you can get involved to change or improve upon this initial baseline or even to have it point to an external reference on the Interweb that you like or feels add's value. That's All Folks...

Regards.... The Guild Team

Contact admin@guildofprojectcontrols.com if you have questions and / or want to join the practitioners who are collaborating to make this happen.

Never before have practitioners and employers collaborated on this global scale - so join in - shape our profession with us.
