Abstract:

Prior to the advent of powerful enterprise scheduling tools contractors would plan and schedule projects using stand alone scheduling tools, submit the baseline schedule to the owner for review and, on approval, periodically submit backup copies of the updated schedule for further review and monitoring. Is this older paradigm still viable considering the flexibility of enterprise scheduling tools such as Oracle Primavera P6™ now being required by many scheduling specifications? This paper will discuss why more owners are moving to leverage technology and implement enterprise project management applications and requiring contractors to upgrade to Oracle Primavera P6™. Differences between how schedules were managed in the Primavera P3™ database environment versus the Primavera P6™ enterprise environment will be reviewed.

This paper discusses pros and cons of scheduling in an enterprise environment, database ownership, partnering considerations, schedule development best practices, Oracle Primavera P6TM implementation lessons learned, and legal issues of sharing a P6™ enterprise database.
