Daily reports

Daily report is as old as construction. Others call it "Site Diary"; and some just write something daily on a logbook, or even the more organized ones have "job cards"; or even "time cards". These are all forms of "daily reports" which everyone must do. Nowadays, there are even "apps" for "daily reports". However, to update the schedule, is primarily the job of the "scheduler". So the poor scheduler on site must gather all the information needed (or all forms of daily reports), in order to update the schedule, or perhaps to comply with the submittal requirement in the form of daily report. As for sure no one on site would be interested to do it except perhaps for the curious site manager as his signature would be necessary for daily report submittal.

usually the superintendent and or the formen. There is no way that the scheduler knows the detail of every group of work that is going on and the problems encounterd.

As for my opinion and experience, daily report at construction industry must have an internal and external versions. For internal reports (daily reports within the company itself) these are reports consolidated from various departments tackling various issues not only progress-related but also reflects construction issues and concerns, manpower status, equipment status, environmental impacts (if there's any), safety issues which must be discussed and addressed to each department heads for resolutions, mitigations and control. For external reports (to CLient), unlike internal, there are some restrictions on how much information should be disclose for the sake of information control. All of this must be prepared and consolidated by the project scheduler or in my position a sa schedule control.

You should have a standard form for "Daily Report". Of course the whole site team would be responsible for the production of daily report as coordinated by the site scheduler. Each and every discipline must report their daily activities and production. The site scheduler shall gather all the information from every discipline and put into one overall "Daily Report" and of course update the working schedule.
