Just as with Ms Project, there is an option (under Tools>Options>Calculations>"Calculation mode: manual or Automatic") to choose wether the software re-calculates dates, float, etc automatically after each change or, only when you tell it to
P6 has the same option -under F9 > Schedule Options > "Schedule automatically when a change affects dates"
The only difference is that P6 has the setting turned to manual by default, and MS Project has it turned to automatic by default.
If you want to keep it as manual (which I personally prefer -it saves a lot of time when developing bigger schedules if you don't have to wait for the software to recaclualte after every change), you just have to go to F9 > "Schedule" to force the recalculation whenever you want.

thanks for your response. but my point is im still in the planning stage and setting up my baseline. i have no actual inputs and no actual data to schedule. my point is after setting 300 activities link together (300 for now and 1000 more to go), setting successor and predecessor, if i adjust the duration or start or finish dates of the first activity or any activities in that link its successor should follow its predecessors. same as in ms project and p3. but in P6 (my problem) successor dates dont change that leads me to change each 299 activities start date so that it will follow its predecessor. thats a lot of work.. driving columns of predecessor and successor has already have check mark. but still its like it have a constraint which is i checked there no constraint on that dates. please anyone have a suggestion or do i need to change any settings in P6?

you need to schedule your schedule by pressing F9 or look for the icon at the top looking something like an table clock with a play button on it
Once you will schedule your project on a particular data date primavera will run forward and backward pass both in order to give you the longest path

You don't need to encode the Dates.
