The best software application will depend on your particular needs.
Perhaps for IT projects and Industrial outlets where your schedules are small and the users are not CPM specialists MS Project can be the best choice. Here you measure work by hours instead of volume of work so you do not need software that speaks the Construction Contractor language. It is good that most advanced software have some ways to import/export to MS Project.
For the Construction Contractor my choice is Spider Project and perhaps Asta. Both from their origin are software oriented for construction industry and not patched software to look as if oriented for construction just because they labeled a version as if for construction. Spider Project implements the concept of volume of work in a very clear and transparent way.
I do not understand work measured by hours instead of a physical volume of work, different resources produce different amount of work per hour, this is an approach used by MS Project and all Primavera products foreign to those working in the construction industry. In the construction industry people talk about work measured by some physical volume like cubic yards, cubic meters, square foot etc.
If you need serious modeling of limited resources and shift work then my only choice would be Spider Project. Spider Project shines not only with an excellent option for optimal solution search on its resource leveling algorithm but also in the way it handles prioritization that give the user some predictable control on the algorithm. Most notable option although perhaps not spoken or not available in other software is the option to resource level keeping the activity sequence of prior version, an option that can keep the sanity of Project Managers who find out that their software resource leveling changes activity sequence on every update.
I would avoid software that is confusing, that is difficult to install and support is none. About support Asta and Spider Project stand out way higher than the rest.
The best selling software in the world for accounting is Peachtree Complete while the best selling software in the world used for scheduling is MS Project.
Many of us believe being popular or best selling des not necessarily means "Best" product.
Maybe your company shall be using Peachtree for accounting and MS Project for scheduling.
Do not label other products as not "Best" because they are not as popular as those popular but in no way "Best".
I did'd Know more about this spider & asta. I only just heard about it. Is it good? Better than primavera? U r using that? Up to now i did't see that pprograms. Upto now they are not popular??? Tell me somethimg about those application.......

I think your question is valid and will be very handy to have shortcuts like that working with Primavera. But as far as I know, Primavera has allowed only limited keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + X and Ctrl A. I don't know any other then that. But just to easan your job, I would say if you can go to resource assignments and then sort your items by Resources & activity ids or whatever suits your best, you can easily enter the values for all of them. This is the best I can think of it to halp you at the moment. I think this will be lot quicker to add lots of resources to the program.
That's a very practical cool idea.....Ofcoarse I will try in that way......Actually if I got stuck with any doubts I will search & search it on net and will find.....but in this case am not getting....anyway I will try & if I got any will pubish.....U also, if u got any pls inform me..... thankyou Mike......

Well done.
If you switch to Asta or Spider then you can copy and paste data between the programme columns and a spreadsheet in 10 seconds.

Hi Arun
Why not just hold down the Ctrl key and hit every letter in turn to see if you get a result?
I doubt if you will find one - P6 is renowned for making life difficult.
