MEP First Fix does not follow a floor by floor logic.
You have to look at the building as a whole unit and look at where the MEP elements start and stop within the structure.
Its like human anatomy.
In respect of First fix MEP you have to look at the structure as an organic person and connect the organs to the nerves by a series of conduits - Air channels - Nerve systems - Waste Channels.
2nd Fix and finals can then be developed on a foor by floor basis until they are all complete and final test and commissioning starts which then reverts back to the whole body concept.
You have to remember the following basic elements.
1. MEP 1st Fix works connect one piece of kit ot another - these could each be at any location in the building.
1.1 So you have a number of AHU's on the roof connecting to any number of A/C outlets at different levels in the builing.
1.2 So first determine a milestone when the structure is ready for each AHU to be installed and add a succesor task for that work
1.2.1 Then fix a milestone when the 1st horisizontal distribution ductwork can be istalled and add a succesor task for that work .
1.2.2 Then fix a milestone when the vertical risers are ready for the vertical ductwork to be istalled and add a succesor task for that work
1.2.3 Then fix a milestone when the next horizontal milestone can be installed.
1.2.4 When all three milstone are in place then link them to another task called Connect Sytem Horizontal and vertical for each indiviual system
Note. I was on a project in Tolouse in France whe there were 47 air handing unite each sevine a different duct route - so there were 47 systems in my 1st fix MEP programme.
1.2.5 This last task is then linked to a milestone - AHU System ready for Wild Air.
1.3 This milestone is then linked to the last of the Finals task in the 2nd Fix operation which then is linked to Start Test and Commissioning.
Note - There are a lot of other cascades at Project Level leading to the same milestone.
2. You have a Transfromer in the basement that reduces to the 11kv intake to a 120 / 240 v output
2.1 There will the be a series of distribution cable that connect to MCB's at each level and then on to DB's in each zone.
2.2 From each DB there will be a series of cables to each outlet - and that is where the Building Level work zone relates to the MEP 1st Fix task.
Final Note: There are many interfaces at 2nd fix work between MEP and other trades in both Floor Ceiling and Wall zones at each work zone - and again at floor level.
The only way that these can be integatrated properly and to retain a the true critical path is to use bottom up programming method.
