Design Programme

Dear sunil,

Planner does not become only by using the primavera, but for a planner most important is that the basic knowledge of the subject matter and the logical thinking.

Primavera or any other software is just a tool to express, so if u make it in excel or primavera it does not reflect whether u know the basics or not, it just shows the reviewer, whether u r thinking in logical way or not.

so use of software depends upon the complexity of the assignment and ease of operating and representing what u r thinking.

Abhi

Hi Sunil,

Don’t you be afraid of anay performance degradation if using Primavera for deliverables ? Will the database be strong enough ?

Are there any planners who already use this functionality ?

Kindest regards.

Hi Kale

i do agree that keeping all design deliverables in excel is easy......

when we have go a software such as primavera with all advanced features where we can keep, schedule & monitor........dont you think we should do that in primavera rather than excel which anybody can do.....u dont need to be a planner to do that.....

rightly said Shiv,

When i worked on EPC project related infrastructure, we also used to maitain the tracking of all designs via excel.

Its better n easy way as in a single sheet we can reflect the status of all designs and drawings wheter they are approved or in which stage of approval they are like that.

Sunil ,

you r working for which company in power . BHEL / ABB or others.

I was in BHEL and was using the Excell sheet for delivarables.

But also we maintained the Primavera schedule for all the major imporatnt delivarables.

with WBS as follows :

Engg

MECH / ELEC&Inst/ CIVIL etc

Approval Category / Infor mation category /Ass Built Drgs

Then in each category name of the Document [ eg 6.6 kv SLD ]

For this particular WBS element you have to create activities ;

such as

Ist submission

Re Submission

Approved by Client Code -2

Approved by Client Code -1

This is based on your contract requirement or as per agreement with client.

The above break up could have resouces like MECH , ELEC, CIVIL .

Based on the total value of % agreed with client you can get the totals for MECH, CIVIL, ELEC.

Ensure that the % matchs with what is agreed .

I have a project with 100 civil deliverables 100 mechanical deliverables & 100 electrical deliverables, i have to logically connect all these deliverables within their discipline & also i have to logically connect(relationship) between interdisciplines & finally these deliverables or a set of deliverables will be logically connected to concerned construction activity. Do you want me to give weightages to each & every deliverable & subsequently addup to make a total progress.

Have you have done such type of programme in p6.

Even resources also i have add for the deliverable. Here in my programme the construction activity is just like constrained activity or interproject relationship, does this works.

Sunil,

Suppose 10 deliverables related to one activity and you have different status of the deliverables. For each milestone value multiply with the wt. of the status, i.e. no. of docs. on that status divided by total no. of docs. In this way you will get progress on each milestone of the activity, sum all such progresses gives you the progress of the activity.

Chris,

I don’t use step of the activity. Don’t understand what do you mean by technical progress. Will you elaborate your question pls?

Do you mean relate many activities(or deliverables ) to one particular milestone (which is a activity) & measure the progress

How accurate is this suppose 10 deliverbales has been linked to a milestone & at the time of updatation only 2 -3 activities has been finished then how could you measure the progress.

Nar,

Do you mean you enter ’steps on activity’, and you mention at each schedule update the progress of each step ? Or do you choose ’WBS Milestones’ technic for Technical Progress ?

Kindest regards.

You will assign certain percentage of completion after each subsequent milestone achieved, e.g. 20% for SDC, 40% for IDC etc.

Nar, What do u mean by milestone progress method?

Relate every deliverables to activites you create. Assign resources to activites.Use milestone progress method ( some may differ)to monitor the progress.
