Thanks for the warning! I hope it will work.Clicking "get" and "set" seem pretty straightforward. I will make a copy of the project before importing. If it does not work, it will affect only the open project right? not the whole system.
In Excel tool there is 2 button : Get activity step and Set activity step. You use "Get" to get information from database to Excel file. After finish editing in excel file you use "Set " to update changes you made to database.
You have to install SDK prior to use macro tool (Excel). You can find the way to install SDK in POINT.
Thanks & regards

SDK and API both are programmers tools. Both work with the database directly - so no control on correct entry. You need some programming experience to use them. Be careful!
The error message gives a hint: the file name was wrong.
This "activity5x" file does seem very neat!! I have never used SDK before. Is it I click on "Set Activity Steps" and my P5 schedule gets updated real time? That sounds too good. Unfortunately my SDK or API (sorry I do not really know the difference), it does not seem to be working. Any help on how I can get it to be working is appreciated, if this SDK/ API is what I understand it to be. After I installed API from the API cd, it seems nothing happened, except that now I have a program file "API". Is it I need to be a superuser or higher to be able to use it? Thanks so much K D!

API means Application Programming Interface. SDK is a sidekick that you can use to have link access your PMDB database which included in your P5 cds installation disk. You did not include your email address for much better communication.
What is API? My intention, lets say, to illustrate, is to have all items to be procured as steps for activity name "Procurement of piping". Now my procurement department has in excel format all the piping items to be procured. In this way, we can just check when that item comes and we get the % progress. Hope this clarifies. Where can I find these files or exercises, Rodel?

Are you refering to create an activity steps group added to templates or assigning activity step into activities? Or both?
There are 3 tables in PMDB database related to that exercise which are PROCGROUP, PROCITEM and TASKPROC. You can update these tables using SDK or ODBC link or just a simple update from XER.
Should you require assistance, send me a PP with your email address so I can assist you step by step.

Data affected by the tool depends on which project you choose to loading in drop-down list box when you open the excel tool.

Hi Jerry.
We think you can use the excel macro tool to import activity step.
You can download that free tool at Primavera POINT website.
Thanks
