Shahzad,

Andrew guided you perfectly well. Go ahead and activate filter option in update menu and define a new filter yourself named like WBS specific and choose the right WBS path or name and then run update.

Cheers.

Shahzad,

You can accomplish this by utilising the filter function in the baseline update options box. This filter works in the same manner as the normal layout filter. So if you select the appropriate activities, only these will be updated.

Andy thanks very much for your answer, could you please also explain how i would go about updating the activities only relevent to specific wbs in the baseline "A",,lets say scope of WBS "X" is changed ,,and the activities in baseline "A" are no longer valid, so we must have different actibvities in baseline "A" and current project.

also i am using monetary value for each activity for EV purpose.

much appreciate your answer.

HI

What I can say is its just for getting the planned percentage for some reports we normally make.

And yes the mail below is very right just that it depends, whether you really need all that information. It is very good to do all those Earned Value Calculations But finally it all depends on your need

Shahzad,

The baseline can be defined as ‘The total time-phased budget plan against which program performance is measured. It is the plan for expenditure of the resources allocated to accomplish program scope and schedule objectives, and is formed by the budgets assigned to control accounts and applicable indirect budgets, and is generally smoothed over time to accommodate the available resources’.

So why Update?

As we know (some of us all to well) from time to time in a project the scope may change or there may be some requirement to change project direction due to external factors. If this occurs there is generally an agreement between the client and the project team.

As we use the PMB (Performance Measurement Baseline) for the measurement of EV (Earned Value), it would be impractical to change scope or direction of the project and not modify or ‘update’ the PMB to reflect these new project priorities.

The update function within Primavera allows the user to select specific groups of activities for update, (you would only update the activities in the future which are affected by the changes).

By updating the PMB you will still maintain the historical data and EV measurements thus far and also allow the capture of the new “plan” and any subsequent measurements against it, (future EV calcs)

Hope this helps

Andy
