Thanks Mark for your advice. I have in fact fixed the problem, this is how. Export the project with a primary constraint & primary constraint date field. Enter the dates in the excel spreadsheet into the primary constraint date column and enter a Start On constraint in the constraint column. When you import, the dates come across in the constraint field, hit schedule and the start dates are then reflected as per the constraint dates.

I dont use this facility but I suspect the key thing here is to ensure you have the correct durations and logic then let the software calculate the dates remembering you need to configure a calendar too and this where discrepancies can occur.
