Set the following up in an Excel spreadsheet and you’ll see how you can use the import/export to Excel to load your WBS into your activities.

Create a blank workbook.

In cells B3 to B6 enter A to D.

In cells C3 to C6 enter a WBS Code as used in your prog.

In cells D3 to D6 enter a WBS Description (ditto).

In cells B10 to B20 enter a series of Activity IDs (any!).

In cells C10 to C20 enter a code from your list in B3 to B6.

In cells D10 enter the formula =LOOKUP(C10,$B$3:$B$6:$C$3:$C$6)

Copy the above down to D20.

In cells E10 enter the formula =LOOKUP(C10,$B$3:$B$6:$D$3:$D$6)

Copy the above down to E20.

NOTE: You may need to edit (F2) each formual cell and press ENTER to refresh the lookup.

Once you’ve done this you can see how you can apply it to your tasks and WBS.

A bit "wordy" but I hope it helps.

KD,

It’s easier to manipulate data in Excel especially if you have advance knowledge in Excel. You can use look up functions and filters to make it easier when assigning WBS to each activity. You can build a table of WBS code and WBS description so you know what to look and what to assign. You can copy direct WBS from P5/P6 and paste it to spreadsheet.

Hope this help

Hi all.

Global change function is useful when we assign big number of activities to small number of WBS. So you do have to create lots of condition .

In my case there are over 1000 WBS. If using Global change I have to create over 1000 condition.

Hi Rodel.

When export to excel , it’s harder to find a WBS to assign. Do you think so? I have not found a solution by exporting to excel yet.

Thanks

KD,

You can use export/import excel function. It’s another quick way of assigning WBS.

Do you have any criteria to say if A then WBS X, if B then WBS Y?

Then the global change would be the easist way.

Hi all.

Thanks for your update.

Ofcourse we can use fill down function. But problem i mean is assign WBS for the first activity in the group, then we can fill down. Normally we have 10 activity for each WBS ,so that mean we have over thousand of WBS to assign. It’ll take time to assign WBS , even for the first activity.

Do you know how to make the WBS assignment dialog box stay still like Relationship assignment dialog. We can assign faster.

Thanks
