For such circumstances I have devised various code fields such a s a Process Code, which has the various processes defined throughout, such as, Design, CAD, Check, Instal, Test, etc.
Although the method you decribe with respect to the wild card search is not available, the codes fields give unlimited slice and dice optins to your schedule.
You can develop the codes structures and then simply apply them with global change or using the filter function and fill down.
This is fine. But lets say WBS 2.5.6.1 , 6 is for construction. And I want ONLY construction activities across all projects (for e.g). In P3, i will put ?.?.6.? in filter to get ONLY construction activities across all projects. In P5, you will get only all those under 2.?.6.? but I want also 1.?.6.? etc.
