I am currently trying to do the same thing with my projects.
I am developing a document at the current time which will set out some basic principles for the use of P5 and the levelling of generic resources (skill pools).
If some of you would like to have a read of the document and pass comment once Im finished it (sometime in the next 2 weeks), send me a private message with your contact details.
Id be very pleased to let you have a review of the document as Ive thus far found the resource leveller in P5 something that needs to be tamed to say the least.

Yes, skill scheduling is very useful for design project portfolio management. Actually it is necessary if you plan resource usage on the "personal" level (who will do what).

I am at the very early stages of a Design Engineering project. I have added Roles to all the design activities, but as yet, not specific resources. I need to level the activities, to determine how many Design Engineers will be required on the project.

few planners require skill scheduling. I did not meet these requirements at Planningplanet before. It is interesting in what kind of projects and how do you plan to use it?

Thanks Paul
Maybe I should log a request with Primavera, and see if we can get this facility included in the next version.

Levelling only works on Resources and not with Roles.
