What is Remaining Float?

Hi,

P6 has a new float field called "Remaining Float".

Remaining Float is calculated as the difference between the Late Finish and the Remaining Early Finish. Therefore the Remaining float will be equal to the total float when the activity is unstarted.

If the activity is in progress and user manually changes the Remaining Early Finish and the schedule will show a remaining float different than total float. However the schedule calculation will recalculate the Late Finish. Remaining Float will equal to Total Float once again.

1) Does anyone know what the "remaining float" is used for?
2) Is the "Remaining Float" ever a different value than the total float?
