Hi gary - i suppose the problem is I am not using the DD correctly -i have 800 tasks in variuos states not started to late and behind- with a few complete.
i fi use the DD say to todays date then I know i will have to revisit every task to pull it back in to the finish date ( there are no reasources assigned) - i ddint want to be a slave to the schedule doing that every month - but if that what needs to be done then i will try
thanks

1) You should not have any actual progress registered after your data date. Re-set your data date to the point up to which you are reporting progress (Maybe 23rd?)
2) When a start or finish date has actualy happened (ie moved from a forecast to an actual date), you should be ticking the "actual" checkbox next to the dates in your activity details, and manually confirming the actual date.
First of all understand the concept of 'Data Date'. It is the date up to which actual performance is reported and the date from which the remaining work or the future work is scheduled.
Now, in your case, your are giving actual start and finish dates to the 1st and 2nd activities and start date for the 3rd one. So, when you are scheduling then the 3rd activity remainining start date is becoming 1st Aug, the same as your 'Date Date'.
And when you are making the 2nd activity to be 99% complete (or any percent less than 100), the 3rd activity will remain on 22nd Aug, following the FS Link it has with the 2nd one.

Does that fix it?

Dear Andrew,
First of all understand the concept of 'Data Date'.

Hope it is clear to you now.
