Started construction career straight from school into family groundworks business. (1989 - W&D Friel) Attended Stafford College for ONC and Wolverhampton University for HNC in Civil Eng.
In 1991 Friel construction was founded with a focus on providing Civil Engineering services to large residential developers and industrial clients.
In 1995 I took a working years holiday in Australia, working for Ford Civil Pty on the rail tunnel improvement programme for the 2000 Olympics.
From 1996 -2008 Friel Construction went through a large expansion programme, at one point turnover was in excess of 25million and over 400 directly employed skilled operatives.
My role was as general construction manager at that point, working with the contracts managers on an operational level and closely with the commercial team in the production targets. Another large part of the role was producing tender programmes and live construction programmes.
I attended my first Asta Powerproject course in 1999 and have subsequently completed similar courses in Oracel and MSP.
In 2009 I established my own Project Planning consultancy, Aboutplace ltd. Which aims to provide professional planning and programming services to the construction industry. I own and operate all three of the major software platforms - Oracle P6 / Asta Powerproject and MSP.
With over 20 years in the industry I have a very strong general construction knowledge and an expert knowledge of Civil Engineering and groundworks. This enables me to produce programmes that are based on real knowledge and experience.
My work within the industry also makes me acutely aware of how powerful a tool a well constructed and maintained programme is to any project. Equally how important a programme is to demonstrate change to clients, manage the supply chain and if required demonstrate EOT's / D&D.
I have experience submitting programmes under Clause 14 constracts and also NEC ECC2/ 3 PA1 .
