Getting out on site

With a few years design behind me I would now like to get out on site where the action is.
I am willing to go anywhere as long as there is a reasonable rotation/renumeration.
Any ideas how I can make the change from design planner to site based? I understand it may be quite a different beast but up for the challenge.
