Cumulative Schedule Impacts

I am interested to find any documentation (articles, book references,etc.) that exists regarding guidelines and methodology for identifying cumulative schedule impacts (i.e. the aggregation of small delays to non-critical work to the point that it impacts intermediate schedule milestones or completion dates). Of particular interest would be any methods that have stood the test of succesful claim resolution.
