Hi Dexter

Welcome to P3 - yes you can plot resources using P3 and export values to create Excel reports etc.

However you must have relevant data in your network, i.e. the activities will need to have “Resources” plus numbers of hours “Units per Day” or “Budgeted Quantity”.

Method 1:

a) A method I use to have a quick look at the histogram is to use the “Resource/Cost Profile”. This method produces a Histogram / Curve on the screen below your barchart.

b)To get it to work you need to go first to “File”/”Page Setup” and tick the box Resource / Cost Display.

c)Click in the button “Resource/Cost Profile”, (top of the screen – looks like a histogram!!).

d)Click on this button and then set up the “Select” button, i.e. what resources you wish to view.

e)Next click on the “Display” button and set up the profile.

f)You can print out the Histogram / Curve onto your Schedule – Always looks very effective on say a Summary Schedule.

Method 2:

a)An alternative is to Click on “Tools” /”Graphic Reports” / “Resource/Cost Graphics”.

b)You will need to produce a report spec., usually there are examples loaded that you can modify, or you may need to transfer from other projects.

c)Once you have a report spec. for the Histogram you will need to complete the information that is contained in the various pages, i.e. “Resource”, “Content”, “Date”, “Format” etc. (can be tricky to set up – bit of trial and error!)

d)As well as used to produce Histograms, you can also use this option for producing your % S’Curves, Man Hour curves etc.

e)This will give you a Histogram and/or Curve that plots to the screen and then can be printed off etc.

Method 3:

a)To create a file that can be exported to Excel Click on “Tools” / “Tabular Reports” / “Resources” / “Loading”

b)Again you will need to produce a report spec., usually there are examples loaded that you can modify, or you may need to transfer from other projects.

c)Once you have a report spec. for the Export you will need to complete the information that is contained in the various pages, i.e.

“Resource Selection”, “Format”, “Selection” and “Timescale” (again can be tricky – bit of trial and error and patience is required).

d)Under the “Format” option you should note were you will be sending the data, i.e. name of folder / file !!!!

e)When you press the “Run” button this will give you a spread sheet format that you can work up to give an Excel pretty picture!

The following me be of help – if you a new to P3:

HELP: To get help try clicking on the "Help" option, P3 gives a usable help option.

MANUALS: Try using the P3 Manuals – these are supplied with the CD’s as hard copies or in File format - (but be warned can be hard work at times).

TUTORIALS: P3 has a Tutorial option – well worth flogging through (this is how I started!), click on “Help”/”Tutorials” and work your way through, gives the basic steps in P3.

TRAINING MANUALS: Perhaps have a look at the web site run by Eastwood Harris (EH.com.Au), they do training manuals, the P3 one is well worth considering if you new to P3.

Have fun! and dont forget P5 is here!!!!!

Regards

John
