To answer your question where you try to increase the activity duration but still cannot eliminate your TF??

Reason - Because it is not in your Critical Path

alex is right. typically, Original durations can not be changed once a baseline schedule has been delivered and approved without authorization.

Different relationships can also help get the result your looking for. This could be a way to "hide" something.

just be careful that what you are doing is "ethical". If there is a true delay to some work, insert a delay activity to show the impact.

good Luck.

again you should have a approved baseline schedule at this stage, contractor cannot simply change their schedule without leting the client know. So they cannot hide things. if you still unsure you can use software currently in the market to compare two schedule and identify all the changes between your baseline and current schedule

Thanks for your responce, but I made a snario to reduce the total float by increasing the activity duration, however it is not working properly.

the other way by adding additional activity after the activity (FS 0), it just reduces the TF but not eliminate it.

the second question you may confused is how to increase the total float for non critical activity? because the contractor may want to hide his delay in material delivery by increasing the total float and delay the criticality of the activity.

Thanks in advance

"Salamo Alikom,

A contractor is going to reduce the total float of non critical activity (not started yet)in order to make it critical and claim, how to make it?

and how to increase (Do you mean Reduce) the total float of non critical activity?

Thanks for all

to reduce non critical TF is simple, what you do is increase the activity duration. ie if the TF = 20 then by simple increase the activity duration by 20 days the activity will become critical

However, in a project, a baseline should be already approved, therefore, the contractor cannot easly changes its activity duration, unless the "Clients" did not approve a baseline.

Another way to eliminate TF for non-critical activity is add additional activity in front of after the activity.

But all of these is not possible unless there is a real reason ie, VO, change in scope, delay access to site or information...

It is impossible since Total Float is a calculation result after scheduling/levelling.

Also spend effort on change Total Float cannot achieve any benefit since most of the planner will schedule the project before any analysis.
