Primavera P6 to P3e

Hi,

Good question.  First, yep, you can export from P6.2 to P3.  Go to File -> Export, choose a few options and you're done.

However, if you want to go back and forth with the client and update this project plan, then you might reconsider.  The fields and setup of a project between P3 and P6 are considerably different and going back and forth between these 2 formats may end up as a nightmare in tweaking and fixing.

Have you considered using Excel exports for updates?  Here's a short tutorial https://www.planacademy.com/primavera-p6-excel-export/.

Alternatively, you could have the client log in to your database, if that's at all possible.  If you go this way, I highly recommend looking at the permissioning system in P6 to protect your database and data when you've got clients logging in.

Hope that sheds a bit of light on your options.

Good Luck and Happy planning!

Michael

Once again The Primavera Mad Marketing Mob has struck again.  Primavera has renamed what we now call P6 so many times that I doubt that there is a person in the entire company who can name them all. They practically rename the product with every release.

P3e is the same software as P6.  P3e is not a version of P3.  There is no such thing as P6 version 2.  P3e is the name for P6 when it was at Version 3 & Version 4.  It was then renamed, “Primavera” for Version 5 and finally became “P6” for Version 6.  There were several Version 6 Service packs (now called Version 6.1, 6.2, etc.).  P6 stayed P6 for Version 7 and is now called EPPM and P6 Professional for Version 8.  I have heard a rumor that the next version will be called, “P9”.  I guess that when you suck at marketing, the only thing left to do is to rename you product periodically.

To your question: You are asking if you can export an XER file from P6 SP2 to P6, Version 3 or 4.  Well, XERs only support exporting to Version 4 (the lowest supportable version of P6.)  This is doable but I wonder why you would want to deal with the conversion problems arising from the ancient version of P6.  Good luck!

Any Ideas as I am not sure if an export to P3 format will affect any of the resources, costing and dates when importing into P3e

Thanks
